The Motivation Education™ team has had the good fortune of traveling with and working with some of the top scientists and experts in the world through our collaboration with four different units of the Smithsonian.
(1.) At the National Museum of Natural History, we had the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Briana Pobiner and write a full Next Generation of Science Curriculum emulating her research as a paleornithologist. The curriculum documents include a mystery simulation, important conversations about early humans and just what it means to be human and a total prompt theater play about Charles Darwin and evolution.
(2.) Our work with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) of Panama including a MOTVATION EDUCATION team traveling to Panama and working with their lead researchers in the field to create ways to brainstorm accurately their work in the field. The Program “Rainforest Researchers” with its real-world simulations for the classroom is very popular and is taught both here and in Panama at the Culebra Nature Center. Further, this collaboration resulted in Motivation Education working to design programming and videoconferencing and then along with both STRI scientists and the Government of Panama to produce bilingual children’s books that have been distributed to schools across Panama.
(3.) The work with STRI resulted in a new contract to work directly with scientists at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center and produce a full multidisciplinary curriculum emulated the scientists’ work in the field. This comprehensive education resource includes interdisciplinary lesson plans and digital resources including short films about the scientists’ research.
(4.) All of these professional interactions have led to Motivation Education™ designing many programs for the Smithsonian Associates as well as being a lead subcontractor for creative teaching and being sent to do demonstration teaching and meet with teachers as part of Federal Education Grants. This decade old collaboration allows Motivation Education™ pedagogy to travel.
