Coral Reef Snorkeling
The “Coral Reef Snorkeling” Motivator Map with goggles activity is a way to engage students’ sense of wonder as they imagine and simulate what it would be like to snorkel on a cloudy day. Their “diving masks” help them not only put themselves in the shoes of a snorkeler, but also helps them see how difficult it is to make out shapes and colors in water that darkens on a cloudy day if you slightly darken the room. Participants can make their own masks with blue cellophane, file folders and yarn. Multicolored construction paper fish add to the adventure. The full cluster includes the full Motivator Map, Teaching AssistantOllie Octopus Teaching about coral reef conservation, a reef conservation information graphic and a resource about making the mask.
