The ECRCME Sea Shell Classification Motivator Map for Educators helps participants better understand the concept of biodiversity among a common class of bivalve. By digging through muddy waters to classify shells into different groups, this activity also allows students to ,experience how a scientist might examine each species to collect data. Further, the Motivator Map introduces participants to Dr. Rachel Collin of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the research lab at Bocas del Toro where she studies sea snail development. As with many ECRCME Maps, the actions are adaptable in terms of level of complexity. This particular map is also a great resource for action at the Seashore itself.
