ANSWER: They all are MOTIVATION EDUCATION specialized simulations that teach you about the wonders of our animal planet. You will learn about scientists, watermen and historical figures that have led to both the understanding and lore around these and other animals. STEAM ACADEMY: Peoples of the World Create (ages 9-11)
Motivation Education will bring you into the world of diverse cultures and the art that has been created by many peoples. From refugees to renowned artists to youth making a difference, art reflects learning and travel. Our travels include trips to the Pacific Northwest for Totem Poles to shores in the Middle East for Stone Art and calligraphy to mummification in Egypt to cave art in South Africa to China for watercolor painting to the animal artwork at the entrance to the National Zoo in Washington D.C. Be prepared to take away a wide range of your own creative world art projects.
Welcome MOTIVATION EDUCATION’S opportunity for youth to practice 21st Century Leadership Skills, opportunities to apply them, and challenges in leading creative actions in service to local or global communities. We will be making a considering the many ways to make a difference. Led by Johns Hopkins professor Bob Keddell in lively ways we will learn to take action for civic and scientific literacy while building global awareness. Public speaking and taking charge of your personal interests will build your leadership confidence during fun filled challenges. MOTIVATION EDUCATION staff turns each day, all day, with Award Winning children’s literature and our resident storyteller and children’s book author, into playful action. This program takes the stories, illustrations, the love of great books and the spoken word to activate Imaginations that can culminate in dance, music, laughter, hands on science, and art while fulfilling our read, hear, imagine and do action. Caldecott, Newberry and Coretta Scott King winners, giant stuffed animals, magic wands, play props and other materials of imagination lead the way into an unforgettable set of experiences. STEM ACADEMY: Aqua-labs (Ages 9-11)
MOTIVATION EDUCATION staff will urge you to get wet as you learn all about water, its properties, fresh, brackish and marine animals living in water, water quality testing and water filled weather in a laboratory and field work simulation learning format. Teams of campers will build fully functioning aqua ecosystems to serve as a constant reference point for their learning. Special emphasis will be given in Chesapeake Bay Celebration activities and activities entitled All of Us-One Ocean. Laboratory exercises are based on activities designed in consultation with the National Aquarium in Baltimore, the Lawrence Hall of Science and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute of Panama. Join us to up your science skill and aquatic knowledge.
This very popular program always has a waiting list because it immerses you into all things aquatic. Building a team aquarium, stocking it with live fish and learning to manage water chemistry is but one challenge. Following whales, turtles and constructing underwater volcanoes are others. Solve the great mystery of Who Killed Ronnie Reef? Motivation Education instructors promise to get your hands wet and help you explore all things water. STEM ACADEMY: Ecosystems of the World (Ages 9-11)
New this year, MOTIVATION EDUCATION is addressing the popularity of studying ecosystems and water environments by offering a challenging set of hands on actions by having a series of labs and simulations about ecosystems of the world. We will be including a special emphasis on the building of a fully functioning ecosystems to learn the complex interactions between water, plants and animals as well as taking simulated trips into ocean environments. From fresh water ponds to the Chesapeake Bay to the Marine environments to Rainforests, you can join us to dive into some of the world’s great ecosystems.
Motivation Education is offering an opportunity for you to pick up a mike and grow in confidence through renowned and your own creative performances. We invite you to learn about and TRY Kamishibai Japanese Theater, making and performing with foam puppets, diving into and creating shadow puppetry, TRYing improvisation while walking and talking with Marionettes, performing environmental mystery plays and even Slam Poetry. Along the way, we will consider Japanese culture, Sesame Street, Indonesian Culture, the theater sports of Sweden and even the Environment of the Chesapeake Bay. Join us for bold creative fun.
STREAM ACADEMY: Wacky, Wonderful and True! (Ages 5-9) MOTIVATION EDUCATION instructors will lead you into fun-filled adventures that are both unbelievable but true. How would you like to learn some sign language to be like KOKO, the signing gorilla, or MODOC the world’s greatest elephant, or perhaps MAGIC WANDS with electricity, or the DRUMMER BOY who saves the day or MONSTERS of the sea that were really manatees? LEGENDS, TRICKSTERS and emulating the work of real-world SCIENTISTS will also help lead campers into authentic action highlighting what is wacky, wonderful and true.
